Privacy Policy — Social Media Saver
Last updated: 2026-04-30
This privacy policy describes how the Social Media Saver browser extension ("the extension") handles information. The extension is published by Blackasteroid (Pablo Morales, Argentina). Contact: pablofmorales@gmail.com.
Summary
The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. It runs entirely on your device and only does work when you click its download button on a supported site.
What the extension does
When you click the download button added by the extension on a post in X (Twitter), Reddit or Instagram, the extension reads the public media URL of that post and asks your browser to download the file to your local downloads folder.
Data we collect
None. The extension does not have a backend server. We do not operate any analytics, telemetry, error reporting, or advertising service inside the extension. We do not create user accounts.
Data stored on your device
The extension uses the browser storage API to save user preferences (such as file naming options) on your device. This data never leaves your computer and is removed when you uninstall the extension.
Permissions and why they are required
- downloads — to save media files to your local downloads folder.
- activeTab — to read the currently open post so the download button can locate the media URL when you click it.
- storage — to remember your preferences locally on your device.
- notifications — to display a system notification when a download finishes or fails.
- Host access to
x.com,twitter.com,cdn.syndication.twimg.com,pbs.twimg.com,video.twimg.com,api.vxtwitter.com,www.reddit.com,i.redd.it,v.redd.it,*.instagram.comand*.cdninstagram.com— required so the extension can read post pages and request the original media files. The extension does not run on any other site.
Third parties
When you save a file, your browser fetches it directly from the original platform's CDN (for example video.twimg.com or i.redd.it). This is the same network request that happens when you view that media in your browser. Those platforms have their own privacy policies, which are not under our control.
Children
The extension is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after a change means you accept the updated policy.
