Social Media Saver
Save photos and videos from X (Twitter), Reddit and Instagram posts to your computer with a single click. Runs entirely in your browser. No account, no tracking.
What it does
Social Media Saver adds a small download button next to each post on supported sites. Click it and the original media file (image or video, in its highest available quality) is saved to your computer's default downloads folder.
X (Twitter)
Photos, videos and GIFs from any tweet you can see.
Images and videos from posts on reddit.com.
Photos and videos from posts on instagram.com.
Original quality
Saves the source file, not a re-encoded preview.
Local only
Files go straight to your downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded.
No account
Install and use. There is no sign-up, no login, no profile.
Install
Social Media Saver is published on the Chrome Web Store. Once approved the install link will appear here. The extension is also compatible with any Chromium browser (Brave, Edge, Arc, Opera).
Permissions, in plain language
Chrome shows a list of permissions when you install any extension. Here is what each one is used for in Social Media Saver:
- downloads — to save the media file to your downloads folder.
- activeTab — to read the post you are looking at so the download button can find the media URL.
- storage — to remember your preferences (e.g. preferred file naming) on your device.
- notifications — to confirm when a download finishes or fails.
- Host access to x.com, twitter.com, reddit.com and instagram.com — required so the extension only runs on the sites it supports.
Full detail is in the privacy policy.
